Carl Craig Guimond, 88, passed away November 11, 2017 surrounded by his family and lovingly attended to by the staff at Seaside Nursing Home in Portland.
Carl was born on December 1, 1929 in Portland, Maine the son of Paul J. Guimond of New Brunswick, Canada and Hazel Craig of Duluth, Minnesota. He grew up during the Great Depression and having lost his father at a young age, had to forego his high school education to help provide for his mother and siblings on the family farm in the Stroudwater neighborhood of Portland. His family warmly referred to him as a “rough, tough creampuff” as he was strong and stoic but also warm and loving. Carl was an auto mechanic by trade, working for J.J. Nissan Baking Co. and he continued to work during retirement in plumbing and heating. He truly was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything.
He was very generous with his time, helping family and friends whenever they needed him. His passions in life included playing golf, the great outdoors, and all animals great and small. He was a Charter Member of the Gray-New Gloucester Eagles; Life Member of the Portland Elks; Life Member of the Portland Eagles and a Member of the Moose Lodge (Loyal Order of Moose).
He is predeceased by 3 sisters and 6 brothers. Carl is survived by his sister, Evelyn Bridges of Rockland, Maine, his daughter, Carin Martin of Portland, his daughter Carla Ham and her husband, Frank of Portland, his daughter Paula Lorello and her husband Thomas of Gray and his granddaughter, Kate Turner and grandson, Matthew Lorello. He also leaves behind many special friends among them Don Bishop and Chantal Lefebvre.
