Portland-Bernice M. Profenno, 87, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
She was born on March 8, 1931, in Portland the daughter of Forrest E. and Margaret (Delaney) Fickett.
Bernice grew up on Briggs St. in the West End and attended Cathedral High School. She worked for many years at Rines Bros. Department Store and later at the Eastland Hotel.
On April 11, 1953, she married Peter John Profenno in Portland they spent 39 years together before his passing in 1992.
Bernice loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother her family was very important to her, she was known by her grandkids as “Nuna”.
She is predeceased by her brother Frank W. Fickett and sister Peggy Hagar.
She is survived by her four children; Peter Profenno and his wife Dena, Peggy Veroneau, Barbara Renna and her partner Wayne Allen, and Marie Profenno. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018, at 12:00 pm in New Calvary Cemetery 1461 Broadway in South Portland.
