Rudolph (Rudy) A. Ferrante October 25, 1922 August 28, 2014 Rudolph (Rudy) A. Ferrante passed away at Pine Point Nursing Home on August 28, 2014. Rudy grew up in the Little Italy section of Portland, Maine on Newbury St and attended local schools and graduated from PHS in 1941 and then entered the US Navy during WW11, and discharged in Nov 1945 and returned to Portland after the War. Rudy's father, Camillo, a granite contractor who died in 1931 from blood poisoning caused by a simple construction accident. So Rudy was the man of the house at age 9 and when he went to war in 1941, his mother was alone yet watched and helped by neighborhood friends until Rudy's return in November 1945. Rudy worked he worked many odd jobs and help support the family household his widowed mother needed Rudy's help.to run their home as she did not speak English. Rudy Married Elinor Shields Nealley on June 10th 1950. In addition to his parents Rudy is predeceased by his sister Ida Tucci, Portland,Me and brother Roxy Ferrante of Stoughton, Mass. He is survived by: son Tom of Jupiter, FL and Portland, ME; son Michael and his wife Janice of Portland, Maine; son Robbie and his wife Gail of Saco; grandchildren: Rudy, Anthony, and Travis Ferrante; Krista Moore; Step-son Jimmy Fowler; Joseph Ferrante all of Portland, Me and Amanda and Alyssa Ferrante of Jupiter, FL; great grandchildren, Ella Ferrante, Paisley, and Charlie Moore as well as his 102 year old sister Ann DiPrimo of Arlington Mass. Rudy partnered in the Forest Gardens, then Espans Lunch, then went onto open his own business Rudy's Lunch on Middle St in Portland. Then the harbor Lunch on the Portland waterfront, and ran Rudy's Diner on Maine St South Portland from 1975 until his retirement in 1992. Rudy was a lifetime member of Italian Heritage Center,a member of Riverside Golf Course and Purpooduck Country Club and also an original Plank Owner of DiMillo's Floating Restaurant. And is an Member of the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in Fast Pitch softball in the State during the heyday of the sport during the 40's, 50'.s and 60's Rudy never lost his love for sport, and passed it on to his boys He continued to work part time until 2011 at the Sable Oaks Golf Course Family and friends are invited to a grave side service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday September 5, 2014 at Old Calvary Cemtery 1461 Broadway South Portland, ME.
