Richard Allyn Libby

Richard Allyn Libby October 14, 2014 Scarborough - Richard Allyn Libby, 80, of South Portland, ME passed away Tuesday, October 14th at The Gosnell House in Scarborough, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born the son of Phillip Vose Libby and Beatrice May Harris Libby, he grew up in the Thornton Heights neighborhood of South Portland and graduated from South Portland High School. After High School, Dick, what he was known by, joined the USAF and served as an Aircraft Control and Warning Operator during the Korean War. He also attended SMVTI, USM and Northeast Business School. He worked for Rockwood Corp where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Aubin, and they married on July 5th, 1958. Rockwood closed in the 80's, he went to work for D & G Machine until he retired in 2008 due to a stroke. He raised his family in the same neighborhood he grew up in. He loved his neighborhood and the people in it. He is also a member of The United Methodist Church in South Portland. Dick was an avid fly fisherman. He always looked forward to his yearly fishing trip with the ""guys"" from D & G up to Miramichi, NB for salmon fishing. He continued his skilled hobby of fly tying during retirement. He also loved to play golf. His most coveted activity was watching his grandchildren in their activities whether it be chorus, plays, sports or dance any chance he could. He is preceded by his parents, Phillip and Beatrice Libby, Brothers Phillip, Bobby and Edward. Sisters Ruth Faren, Margie Furbush and Nancy LaBerge, and by his beloved wife, Yvonne. Surviving are his daughters, Michelle Caiazzo from Standish and Pamela Libby from Portland. A sister, Sandra Libby, Grandchildren Amber Caiazzo and Rochelle Caiazzo from Windham, Anthony Caiazzo and Cerise Kuczewski from Westbrook. And a great grandson, Donovan Caiazzo also from Windham, He loved his grandchildren very much! Also surviving are many nieces and nephews that he adored and they adored him just as much! ""Uncle Dickie"" they called him. Everyone's favorite Uncle! And his son-in-law George Aubin of Berlin, NH. He was never the same since his wife passed on Mother's Day 2013. He missed her so much and just wanted to be with her again. Alzheimer's robbed him of his memories and the faces of the people he loved the most. It was very painful watching him suffer. We would like to express immense gratitude the Dr Price, the nurses, aides, and the rest of the staff at MMC P6. As challenging as this disease can be, they all kindly supported him through his most difficult times. I cannot thank you enough! Also, thanks to the caring staff at The Gosnell House. It was very comforting knowing our father was in such a caring environment during his final days. A private celebration of his life will take place with his loved ones.
