Ode to Nancy From her Loving Husband Don Robbins When the Creator made Nancy, She made just one. Only one of her sort lived under the sun. She was here with me, and I kept her safe...the safest I could. A favorite memory of our togetherness is of the many times we would sit under the triple window watching snow and/or rain come down while sipping our coffee. It was just the simplest of things that made us happy...We had each other. That was all we needed. Another treasure we shared involved reading aloud from the "Christmas Carol". It became our tradition to begin on the first Sunday after Thanksgiving and continue each Sunday until Christmas Eve. It was just the simplest of things that made us happy...We had each other. That was all we needed. Nancy really did make lots of effort to help me feel good about myself. A long time ago in our relationship, I told her that I could not dance. She insisted that I COULD dance... "There, see", she said, "You CAN dance"! She had tremendous patience with me as I was learning how to read and write all over again following my stroke. She was a great reading tutor and school librarian. It was just the simplest of things that made us happy...We had each other. That was all we needed. ******************* Our amazing mother has touched many people's lives over the years. She was kind and a generous soul, welcoming all into our and hers and Don's homes. She loved hiking and camping, traveling, gardening, reading, cooking, sewing, crafting, and had many other interests. Until the end of her life, she enjoyed a daily chocolate milk shake which always put a smile on her face. As a mother, her most important role, she was always there in ways special to each of us. As a wife, no one can say it better than Don. She and Don were well established characters in Sidney Maine living in their Dome, lovingly known as the Dome Folk. As a librarian and teacher, her impressions and contributions affected little and growing minds. She was the glue in our family to other family members, neighbors, and friends over the years keeping us connected through letters, phone calls, visits, and parties. She was predeceased by many family members including granddaughter Rohan Marley and great granddaughter, Jennie Mailloux. Those of us still living have many wonderful memories of times together: Donald Robbins, loving husband 45 years and forever; Pat, Bridget, Michael, and Terry McCabe, her children; Winnie Robbins Kinsella and Eric Robbins, her step children; Jenny Corbett, Acadia Mailloux, Branwen Robbins, Rachel Jennifer, Jeffrey Hill, and their partners, and Capri McCabe, the youngest of the grandchildren; great grandchildren Rhiana, Reya, and Rainey Jennifer, Jack and Quinn Hill, Jackson and Calder Mailloux, and Hudson, Isla, and Matthew Corbett; nieces Mary Minctons, Liz and Cathy Downing, Sarah Simpson, nephews Ethan Downing, Michael Simpson; oh so many cousins, in-laws and ex-laws; Charlotte Henderson, best friend since 1962 and by her side until the end. Because of her big heart, friends, spouses, significant others, mothers of and fathers of, and many friends all felt like family and this list of important people in her life is long. She was a special woman who will be missed by many, quite a legacy. She died from a life well lived after over 10 years of Alzheimer's. December 27, 1938-June 8, 2024
