Judith A Curran August 2 1948 October 31, 2016 Judith A Curran passed away, surrounded by her loving family on October 31, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born on August 2, 1948 in Bangor, Me.; the second of seven children born to the late Donald H. and Mary G. Mooers. Judy was age 5 when the family settled in Portland. She attended Portland schools and graduated from P.H.S., class of 1966. She graduated from the Maine School of Practical Nursing in September 1967. Judy worked in Obstetrics for two years, then moved to the operating room. She became a Scrub Tech, remaining in that role until 1985 when she was hired by heart surgeon, Dr. Joan Tryzelaar. She became one of the first Certified 1st Assists in heart surgery. She loved her job, but her Family was always her first love. She leaves behind Richard J. Curran, the love of her life; son Daniel Dudley and his partner Jennifer Arenburg; son Keith Dudley and his wife Michele; Rick's sons Mike Curran, Ryan Curran and his wife Sarah . Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart: Gianna, Ava, Olivia, Collin, Garrett and Vince Dudley; Julia, Daniel; Sam and Ian Curran. They referred to her as 'junk food Nana' and loved sleepovers and ""clam dip Wednesdays"" at her house. She was predeceased by her parents and brother John Randall Mooers. She is survived by her loving sister Peg Murphy-Mooers who has shown her great love and support throughout her 8 year battle with cancer; sister Julie Smith and husband Gary of N.H.; sister Kathy Hunt and husband Hal of South Portland; brother-in-law Fred Turner of Windham and bonus brother Harry Grant and wife Susan of Fl. She also leaves her first husband, and father of her children, Mahlon K. Dudley and his wife Sandy and many loved nieces and nephews. Judy leaves behind many special friends acquired throughout her lifetime, including her precious friends at MMC and Willowdale Golf course. Her love of golf was well know; she had 2 hole in ones at Willowdale where she was a 5 time Club Champion, and another ace at Biddeford Saco Country Club. She had a lifelong love of the beach, especially Ferry Beach in Scarborough. She loved animals and will be greatly missed by her big pug Morgan, with whom she shared a special bond. Judy loved the song by Garth Brooks ""The Dance"". Judy always said she had a joy filled life surrounded by wonderful people, and though her time on Earth was shorter than she would have liked, she's had ""The Dance"". The family would like to thank Dr. Laurie Small, Dr. Seth Blank and her sarcoma specialist at Mass General, Dr. John Mullen, for keeping Judy alive for so long, against the odds. Special thank-you's also to Rev. Timothy Higgins and the caring staff s from VNA and the Gosnell House in Scarborough for making Judy's transition as peaceful and pain free as possible. Friends and family are invited to visiting hours from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday November 3, 2016 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland.
