Jeremiah Fitzpatrick Young

Jeremiah Fitzpatrick Young, 48, of Portland, died April 14, 2018. Born in Portland on February 28, 1970. Jerry was born the second oldest of my 5 children, his sister Cynthia C. Young being my first-born child; followed by his three brothers: Issoufou K. Hamilton, Galen Gullatt and Scott Von Erik Gullatt. My dear son has suddenly and unexpectedly been snatched away our lives leaving a trail of heartbreak, pain, sadness and disbelief! For those of you who knew my son, and there are so many of you who did, Jerry, aka 'Sugar Bear"; 'Bull Frog' and of course his ghost writer and artistic name, 'Hostage'; know that he was well loved throughout our community. You all were able to see beyond his outer manifestations and you all knew the real good guy 'Jerry" who had a heart of gold!! My son was a special character to say the least! He was the kind of person who could and would always make you smile even during the most difficult times. Jerry could put a good spin on any tough situation which made you feel that everything was going to be alright. That was a gift he had, not many people are fortunate enough to possess such gift as that. Whether through his humorous personality, his quick-witted comments, his captivating smile, or through his ability to 'rhyme' while turning negative situations into positive ones, he was one of those people that everyone gravitated to. I never imagined my son would begone from me, from us, so soon! We need you Jerry. We LOVE you and you will be missed by all of us, through the good, the bad, and the ugly. As time and unforeseen occurrences befall us all, Jeremiah was taken away from us just as he found a new path in life and was working on turning his life around! He was attending college in Augusta through a special program, and he was actively working on creating a better future for himself. He deserved one last chance but the greatest enemy of all, (death), said no! Jerry you left us too soon! Our family is struggling to find a way to cope with this tremendous lost!! I need to find a way to breathe again my dear son. I never imagined I would be burying any of my children. Jerry attended Portland High School but dropped out before graduation. He proudly returned to PHS to get his GED in 1990. He took college courses at Andover College in the Medical Assistant Program (which he really liked) and just recently had resumed taking college courses to further his education. Jerry spent all his life as a blue-collar worker sometimes working on the docks with the lobster men or on general jobs here and there. Jerry was divorced after his previous marriages failed miserably by betrail and dishonesty. This left him a broken man in search of comfort through alternative means of dealing with the pain from a broken heart. Unfortunately for Jerry and for us, he never ever really recovered from those betrayals. Jerry had a lovable personality. He was funny, witty, and very intelligent. He was simple and entertaining and a real joy to be around. The laughter that Jerry made people do came from deep down inside of them. It was refreshing to watch and much needed at times. Jerry loved music, writing lyrics, singing and rapping. Jerry had one of his poems named "Love be the Way" published by the International Library of Poetry in 2008 in a book called "Collected Whispers". He has over 600 awesome lyrics that he had written, and those memories will last forever. He loved crossword puzzles, cooking and creating wonderful and delicious gourmet dishes. He was great at it! He used to appear live on a local radio station regularly every Saturday night as well, station 90.9. Jerry is predeceased by his grandmother, Lucille Young; his father; his aunt Joyce, his uncles Willie, Johnny, Harvard and James. He is survived by his immediate family, mom - Thelma Jean Gullatt-Young; only sister - Cynthia C. Young; brother - Issoufou K. Hamilton; brother- Galen Gullatt; and brother - Scott Gullatt the youngest of 5 in addition to a large family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 -6:00 PM on Sunday April 22, 2018 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland where a celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 23, 2018. Interment will take place at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
