Eugenia "Ginnia" Lebares

Eugenia "Ginnia" Lebares Mary 29, 1926 February 24, 2014 Portland - Ms. Eugenia (Ginnia) Lebares passed away on Monday February 24, at the age of 87, after a long illness. She was born in Portland on May 29, 1926, the daughter of Greek immigrants George and Vassileki Lebares. She was preceded in death by her brothers Peter and James (Demetrios) as well as her sister Pauline. After graduating from Portland High School in 1944, she began her career at Rines Brothers Department Store on Congress Street, where she worked as a buyer and manager until the mid 1970's. She then worked as a manager for the Uniform shop, finally retiring in 2008, so she could work part time at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Church, and a member of the Daughters of Penelope for over 50 years. She was always volunteering for church activities, serving on both the parish council and the Philoptochos Society. She served as the chairperson of the inaugural Greek Festival, where she remained a fixture until her health declined in 2012. In 2003 she was honored for her service to the church in a special ceremony in Boston, presided over by his Eminence Metropolitan Methodios. Ginnia will be long remembered for her tenacity, strong work ethic and attention to detail. She was quite meticulous, setting a high standard for herself, while expecting the same from her friends and family. She was an avid puzzler, and enjoyed reading fiction. Above all she was a dedicated, loving and generous aunt to her three nephews; George, Peter, and Dennis. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all of them. Sincere thanks go out to the staff at the Barron Center; Donna, Christina, Ann, Brenda, Chrissy and Durel (Peanut). Their kindness and patience during her stay there was remarkable and noteworthy, they are truly gifted and talented professionals, whom deserve unlimited praise for their efforts. Extra special thanks are reserved for Ms. Luci Nanos who's selflessness and friendship to Ginnia was without parallel. Her dedication and service was invaluable to the entire family. Visiting hours are scheduled for Thursday, March 6 from 4 - 7pm at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. A funeral service will be held on March 7, at 11am at The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Pleasant St. Portland.
