Dr. David Alan April

Dr. David Alan April of Bangor Maine died on September 7, 2020 at The Barron Center in Portland.. Born in Salem, MA on December 29, 1944, he was a son of the late Ernest Wilfred April and Dorothea Marie (Bousquet) April. David spent his formative years in Salem and Danvers, MA and graduated from Danvers High School in 1963. David and Martha Putnam Fielding - former classmates at Danvers High School - were married in Danvers in 1967. They were happily married for (give number of years). In 1967 David graduated with a B.A. degree in government from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; the M.B.A. degree in 1974 from the Boston College Graduate School of Management; and the Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) degree from California Pacific University in 1996. He also held professional certifications from the Academy of Certified Administrative Managers; the Institute of Certified Professional Managers; and the Institute of Certified Records Managers. During a career of 42 years, David held administrative management positions for 17 years at IBM Corporation in Greater Boston. In 1984, he functioned as Senior Administrative Manager at Wang Laboratories in Lowell, MA. In 1987, he was Administrative Services Manager at the Analytic Sciences Corporation (TASC) in North Reading, MA. In1994. From that point on he assisted nonprofit organizations, and served as Director of Administrative Services at Community Health and Counseling Services (CHCS) in Bangor. In 2004 David joined PROTEA Behavioral Health Services as Chief Operating Officer and finally, as Senior Director of Operations for Sweetser. Following that, David was semi-retired and worked as Special Projects Administrator at Cornerstone Behavioral Healthcare in Bangor. He fully retired in 2015. In 1986 David joined the New Hampshire Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. There he served as treasurer, first vice-president, and became president in 1992 for two years. In 1987 he also became a member of the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New Hampshire and later served the NH state society as governor. He also lectured on principles of management at Rivier College in Nashua. David's passion was being an accomplished pianist and producing recordings for PianoSociety and YouTube. Rather than playing standard repertoire, he specialized on the Late Romantic Era. In the process he favored composers who had become obscure, unknown, or forgotten. David is survived by his loving wife, Martha, and their two adult children, Richard F. April of Winslow and Jane W. April of Portland; one grandchild, Richard April, Jr.; one older brother, Ernest Wilfred April, Jr. of NYC (if Toby survives me); a nephew in New York, Geoffrey April; and three first cousins: Judith Horgan, Janet Jalbert, and Susan April, all of Massachusetts.
