Phyllis Jean Staples August 3, 1921 October 3, 2013 Portland - Phyllis Jean Staples, 92, of Portland, passed away on October 3, 2013 at the Maine Medical Center. She was born in Houlton on August 3, 1921, the daughter of James and Alveretta (Clark) McGann. She grew up in Houlton before moving to Portland with her family in her teens. Phyllis worked at the shipyard in South Portland during World War II and later worked for over 20 years in housekeeping at Maine Medical Center. She enjoyed the simple things in life and enjoyed music, singing and spending time with her family. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, her husband Clarence F. Staples and her sister Beatrice Junko. She is survived by her six children: Leroy Stover of Rochester, NH, Gloria (Staples) Jackson of Providence, RI, Allen Stover of South Portland, Matthew Stover of Windham, James Staples of Buxton and Thomas Staples of South Portland. She is also survived by her sisters, Mildred of Buxton, Doris of Massachusetts and Ronald of Norridgewock and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at The Park Danforth, Portland Center for Assisted Living and Maine Medical Center. Visiting hours will be held from 4 - 6 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 6pm on Monday, October 7, 2013 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave Portland. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, October 8 at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
