LTC. Colonel (Ret) Robert Davis Obituary

LTC. Colonel (Ret) Robert S. Davis of Gorham passed away on March 21, 2024, surrounded by his wife, Shirley A. Davis, Daughters Robin Davis and Beth Davis-Russell and son Robert B. Davis (Bob), after an admirable fight with Alzheimer’s.  Bob was born on June 5, 1937, in Framingham, Massachusetts. The son of Herbert and Helen Davis.

He graduated from Framingham High School in June 1955.  Bob attended the University of Maine at Orono and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.  On his birthday on June 5, 1960, Bob graduated from University of Maine and was Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corp of the United Sates Army.  On April 1,1961 he was married to Shirley Goff, a sister of Fraternity Brother, Bob Goff, both from Peaks Island.

Bob’s Army career included many assignments in the United States as well as 2 years in Bombay, India, two tours in Viet Nam, as well as three years in Okinawa, Japan.  After completing the U.S. Army Command General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, it was then on to the Military Traffic Management Command in Oakland, CA for three years and retirement #1 after 22 years of service.  Bob Immediately joined United Parcel Service in Oakland, CA working for seventeen years in various management positions.  Bob and Shirley fully retired and moved to Gorham, Maine in 1997 and built their forever home. Over the next 13 retirement years, Bob was a recurring volunteer for Camp Sunshine, Casco Maine, The Gorham Food Pantry, Gorham, ME and the Portland Blood Bank, Portland, Maine.

Bob is survived by the Love of His Life, Shirley Goff Davis, his wife of 64 years, also survived by their children, Robin Davis of Gorham, Beth Davis Russell of Gorham, formerly of California and Bob Davis of Anthem, AZ, 6 Grandchildren, Adam of Hallowell, Adrian of Portland,  Amanda of Standish, Garrett of Monterey, California and Kaitlyn and Sierra of Anthem, AZ, along with 3 great grandchildren, Jameson, Riggin and Harper all of Standish.
