Richard "Dick" Allen Stewart, Jr.

September 20, 1941 ~ April 21, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Richard (Dick) Allen Stewart, Jr., age 75, passed away at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by family on April 21, 2017. He was born in Beacon, NY on September 20, 1941, a son of the late Richard Allen Sr., and Mattie Stewart.

 

He graduated from Deering High School in 1960 and from there went on to work as a reserve police officer for Portland in the 1960s, was owner of Stewart’s Shell on Congress Street, Portland, Stewart’s Getty on Congress Street, Portland, and R. Stewart Heavy Hauling Company in South Portland. He also proudly served the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office as a part-time deputy sheriff for 29 years until he retired on May 18, 2012.

 

Dick had a love for tow trucks, working and country music. He was a loyal and devoted fan of the New England Patriots. He is survived by his wife, Nanci of South Portland, his sons, Dickey (Sue) Stewart of Windham, Bubba (Jen) Stewart of Portland, and Scotty Stewart of South Portland, daughter Christina Stewart of Bath; mother Mattie Stewart of Portland, former wife Anna Ruth Stewart of South Portland, brother Robert E. Stewart of Portland and sisters Mattie Tillett of North Carolina, Gloria Jolivet of Arizona, Aileen Price of Portland and Janice Love of California, step daughter Amy (Dean) Perreault of Fort Kent, stepson Todd (Debbie) Visser of Standish, his grandson Bubby Stewart, Jr. of Portland, granddaughter Jaedyn Stewart of Bath, step grandchildren Justin Brown of South Portland, Lindsy Bryce of Limington, Brooke Visser of Standish, Summerlee Visser of Saco, Alex Visser of Sebago and Nicholai Kotsimpulos of Portland as well as five great grandchildren, Kolby, Landon Emmelyn, Mckenna and Addison and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Richard Allen Stewart, Sr., two infant sons Maurice Stewart and Christopher Estabrook and a brother, Willie Stewart Sr., half-sister Maxine Bandon and half-brother Otis Smith.

 

Visiting hours will be held Friday, April 28, 2017, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, ME from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

 

The family would like to thank NECM, Dr. Matt Dugan and all of the staff at the center who took such wonderful care of him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick’s name can be made to South Portland Fire/Rescue, Scarborough Fire/Rescue, New England Cancer Medicine Center or Hollis Animal Control.
