Richard Douglas Cail

January 26, 1926 ~ January 30, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Richard Douglas Cail passed away at home with family by his side on Monday, January 30, 2017.  He was born January 26th, 1926 in Portland, adopted, and raised by Herbert G. and Beatrice (Beaumont) Cail.

 

Richard joined the Navy at 17 and served during WWII.  After being discharged, he returned to Deering High School and graduated in 1947.  He then started in a carpentry apprentice program with his father.  He became a master carpenter, working for over 40 years.

 

Richard met and married the love of his life, Mary Lewis, in 1947.  Together, they shared over 69 years until her passing in August 2016.  He was a strong family man, devoted to his wife Mary and his children.  He was especially happy spending time with his eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  He was always available to lend a helping hand no matter what the project.

 

Richard was Past Master of Corner Stone Lodge, Past Sovereign Prince of the Scottish Rite, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Kora Shrine, and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

 

Richard was predeceased by his parents and wife, Mary.  He is survived by:  his five children, Cynthia Doiron and her husband Roger, Richard W. Cail and his wife Lynn, Lorraine Beaulieu and her partner James Johnston, Herbert D. Cail and his wife Lori, and Susan Cail; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, June Harbaugh; and surrogate son, Charles Doughty and his wife Tonya.

 

A memorial service with the Masonic Funeral Rite will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 6, 2017 at the North Deering Congregational Church, 1364 Washington Ave., Portland, ME 04103.  Interment will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery, Portland.
