Welcome to the memorial page for

Phyllis Virginia (Wyman) LaBrecque

March 23, 1926 ~ October 9, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Phyllis Virginia Wyman LaBrecque, 91, former long-time resident of Bristol, CT died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 9 2017 at Seaside Rehabilitation in Portland, ME, her home for the past five years.

Born in Lewiston, ME on March 23, 1926 she was the youngest daughter of Stillman Wesley and Lelia Putnam Wyman.  After graduating from Lewiston High School class of 1944, she held local jobs at Hall & Knight Hardware, Hildreth Press and was most fond of her work at the Lewiston Public Library.  She met Marcel A. LaBrecque at Old Orchard Beach one summer evening enjoying the big bands playing on the pier in the 50’s.  After 23 years of marriage, she was widowed at the young age of 53.  She learned to drive and continued to persevere throughout her life, raising her youngest daughter, Gloria, and thriving into her retirement from Rowley Spring Co.  During her years at Seaside, she was very active in playing bingo, enjoying the many music events and became quite a coloring artist and wheelchair bowler.  She was also blessed to re-connect with her sister, Priscilla, with whom she shared a room and both were well-loved for their quick wit.  She will be remembered as a kind, sweet and loving soul with a ready smile and a twinkle in her eyes.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sisters Mildred and Priscilla; brothers Merton, Gerald and Edward.  She is survived by three daughters, Carmen Derwin and her husband Paul of Naugatuck, CT; Janice Sherman and her husband David of Burlington, CT; Gloria LaBrecque and her wife Mary of Portland, ME; five grandchildren, Sean, Paige, Christopher, Marcella and Benjamin; three great- grandchildren, Xiandra, Lilah and Jillian; and her very special niece, Phyllis Ann and several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 16 at 10am at St. Francis de Sales at St. Ann Church on West St. Bristol, CT.

A special thanks to the staff of Seaside Rehabilitation who loved and cared for Phyllis. Our family is forever grateful for your kindness.
