Linda H. (Hoffman) Newell

Lynne Newell, 72, of Gorham, Maine, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at home with her family by her side.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Henry and Irene Hoffman, Lynne received her Undergraduate degree in English from Ohio University, and eventually her Master’s degree in Library Science from Syracuse University. She worked for the State Library of Connecticut for many years before retiring and moving to Maine to be closer to family.

Lynne is remembered as a loving mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She inspired a love of travel in her family, and spent several magnificent vacations trekking around the globe.  Some of her favorite memories were rooting for the UCONN women’s basketball team, and spending time with her grandchildren, including a recent trip to Disney. Her love of reading was also well-known, and she would often go through several books per week in her retirement.

Lynne is survived by her son Alexander and his wife Diane of Falmouth, Maine; her beloved grandchildren, and devoted family. There will be visiting hours from 10-11 a.m on Thursday, July 20, 2017. and a memorial service from 11-11:30 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home at 660 Brighton Ave, in Portland, Maine. Any who knew her well are welcome to attend.
