Welcome to the memorial page for

Leo Steve Reny

April 30, 1946 ~ April 21, 2017 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Leo STEVE Reny, age 70, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Maine Medical Center. He was born April 30, 1946, in Westbrook, to Richard Reny and Rose Tellier. He was an enlisted marine and served in active duty in Vietnam for 33 months. He was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.

There wasn’t a person he met that didn’t become his friend. In his more than 100 visits to Maine Med, his primary conversations wrapped around his love for the Lord. He was an amazing disciple of Christ. Along with that he was the epitome of the Energizer bunny and Jerry Lewis wrapped up in one. Everyone who visited him, left a happier person.

He married Sandra King, the love of his life, on July 15, 1967, in Portsmouth, NH and together had five daughters. His greatest joy was the job of husband, father, proud grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 1 with 2 princesses on the way; as well as being a surrogate father figure to many. He was loved immensely by all those in his life. Steve had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.

He was a machinist by trade and a Cumberland County Sheriff. Steve truly lived life to the fullest in all he did.

Over the years, Steve had served in his church as an AWANA Leader, a Sunday School teacher, choir member and cooked for the men’s breakfasts. He was a father, brother and confidant to all who needed one.  He served at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen for over 20 years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Robert Bolduc, Donald Reny and Frank (Marley) Reny and his favorite sister in law Eleanor King, who had down syndrome, who he helped raise.  Surviving, In addition to his loving wife Sandra, of 50 years, are his children, Patricia (Reny) Malia and husband Steve, Pamela (Reny) Nappi and husband Michael, Christine (Reny) Albert, Julie Reny-Lunt and husband Kenneth, and Stephanie Reny; his 12 grandchildren: Nicholas and wife Kate Nappi, Megan and Katie Rutherford, Mollie and husband Derrick Grailich,  Morgan and husband Cody Hackett, Benjamin and wife Brittany Garrett, Emalee Garrett and Stephen and wife Courtney Garrett, Elizabeth and husband Zachary Barrows, Lucas, Abigayle and Eleanor Lunt; and his great grandson, Jack Nappi and 2 beautiful princesses coming this summer, his brothers Arthur and wife Gerry Reny, his brother John and wife Ann Reny, Sisters Shirley Phinney and Nancy and husband Robert Greer and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and many great greats.
