Welcome to the memorial page for

Judith Ann (Mahoney) Clancy

April 7, 1941 ~ September 14, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Judith Ann (Mahoney) Clancy, 76, of Westbrook, passed away in her home due to complications from heart disease on September 14, 2017.  She was born April 7, 1941 in Portland to George E. and Dorothy I. (Newlander) Mahoney.

Judy graduated from Deering High School in 1959.  She retired from the Portland Newspapers after a long and dedicated career as a proofreader.  She was widowed in 1997 after the passing of her beloved husband, Frederick J. Clancy, Jr.

Judy enjoyed traveling all over the US and world, but her favorite place was right in Casco Bay on Peaks Island.  She spent a lot of time there as a child and carried on that tradition with her family later in life. Judy was also an excellent cook and loved preparing meals, ranging from Italian to Middle Eastern cuisine. She never missed the opportunity to bask in the many compliments she received for her cooking.

Judy was very generous with her family, church and various charities. She was almost as generous with her car repair shop as driving was NOT one of Judy’s strengths — at least according to her kids and the few brave souls who dared get behind the wheel with her.

Her other interests included reading, doing crossword puzzles, celebrating the dominance of the Boston sports teams, watching the sunset on the Eastern Promenade, dining at The Village Cafe, bird-watching and hanging with her beloved cat, Libby.

Judy’s sense of humor and quirky sayings, songs & traditions will be fondly remembered by her family and friends. “Thanks for the Jeffrey, Judy” and We love you and miss you.

The Clancy family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and various healthcare professionals who helped care for Judy over the years.

Judy was preceded in death by:  her loving husband, Frederick J. Clancy, Jr.; her mother, Dorothy I. Mahoney, and father, George E. Mahoney.  She is survived by:  her three children, Michael F. Clancy of Worcester, MA, Jonathan D. Clancy and his wife Jackie of Henniker, NH, and her daughter, Elizabeth M. Clancy of South Portland; sister, Susan E. Hoyt of Gorham; three grandchildren, Ryan Clancy of Keene, NH and Madeline and Jared Clancy of Henniker, NH; cousins Julie and Don Davidson of Portland and David Smart of Portland; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy's name to either Camp Calumet, P.O. Box 236, W. Ossipee, NH 03890 (www.calumet.org) or HART, P.O. Box 351, Cumberland, ME 04021 (www.hartofme.com).
