John Joseph Ricci

John Joseph Ricci, of Portland, passed away March 1, 2017 surrounded by loving family at The Gosnell House after a brief illness. He was born in Portland on May 13, 1927, the son of the late Constantino "Charles" Ricci and Lucia Esposito Ricci. John grew up on Munjoy Hill and he was extremely proud of his Italian heritage. He was educated in the Portland schools.

John’s proudest career accomplishment was being a nursing home administrator. He said "caring for the aged, turned the tough guy around". He owned and operated Walric Estates and Whitehaven Nursing Home in Portland’s West End during the 1970's & 1980's.  He retired in 1984 and during his retirement kept himself busy by making antique reproduction country furniture.

John’s hobbies included traveling and reading.  He was known for his generosity and he always liked helping those in need and the under dogs. John has left behind beautiful memories for those who knew him.  He was the best story teller and he loved to share his life experiences with people.

John is survived by:  his wife of 40 years Rose Bessey Ricci, the love of his life; daughter, Lucia Ricci Igani and her husband Behzad Igani; and two beautiful grandchildren, Dario Igani and Ariana Igani. Lucia was his shinning light, and Dario and Ariana filled his last eight years with so much love and joy.  He has left behind a legacy of kindness. Heaven has gained such a precious soul. Rest in peace Tutti!

 A graveside service with military honors will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Falmouth on May 13, 2017 at 11:00AM.
