Welcome to the memorial page for

Jane Kelley Harley

June 22, 1922 ~ December 7, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Jane Kelley Harley, 95, died on December 7, 2017, at Seal Rock Healthcare Facility with her three children by her side. She was born June 22, 1922 in Brewer Maine, the daughter of Carl U. and Gertrude S. Kelley.

Jane graduated from Brewer High school and attended Husson Business College. Later, she moved to Washington DC where she worked as a secretary during World War II. On a chance blind date, she met and fell in love with Lance Corporal E. Philip Harley. They were married on August 14, 1943 and were married for 67 years.

She built a loving home for her family in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. She was a devoted member of St Alban’s Episcopal Church for many years and graciously dedicated her time in both her church and the community. You could always find her working at the polls on Election Day or volunteering at an American Red Cross Blood Drive.

She was a generous and caring woman who gave from her heart, whether it was a hand knit sweater for a new baby, home baked treats at Christmas time or a casserole for those in difficult times. She opened her home to friends who needed a place to stay or a visit over a hot cup of tea. She enjoyed spending her summer days at Crescent Beach with her children and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May 2010. She is survived by her three children; Philip W. Harley and his wife Barbara of Hattiesburg MS, Elizabeth J. Potente and her husband Joseph of Stafford VA and Sally A. Leavitt and her husband John of Saco ME. She was lovingly known as “Nanny of the North” by her five grandchildren; Tara A. Hagge and her husband James, Camron Harley, Carissa M. Potente, J. Dylan Potente and Hannah Jane Leavitt, and three great grandchildren; Izabelle E. Hagge, Bryce W. Hagge and Chloe M. Gaffaney.

The family sincerely thanks the staff at the Inn at Atlantic Heights, especially Christine, the staff at Seal Rock, especially Jessica, and Beacon Hospice, especially Laura, Brett and Danielle for their respect and loving care that Jane received while there.
