Doris Catherine Seekamp

Doris Catherine Seekamp passed away February 8, 2018.  She was born August 12, 1939 in Jamaica, NY to Edwin and Louise (Helferich) Baker.

Doris graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in New York City.  Following high school she did clerical work and married Henry C. Seekamp on July 3, 1960.  She and Henry moved a lot because he was in the Army, but they eventually settled in Maine.  They moved to Owls Head in 1985 where they owned a Natural Food Store (Mountain View Market).  They moved to Falmouth in 1987 where she managed a temporary help service (Norrell).  She then opened a day care in her home until her retirement in the late 90s.

Doris loved gardening and spending time with her family.  She was very generous and volunteered at Veteran’s Homes, the Red Cross, and various churches.   She was a member of St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland for 10 years.

Doris was preceded in death by:  her parents; brothers, Robert and Thomas; and son, Henry C. Seekamp Jr.  She is survived by:  her husband, Henry C. Seekamp Sr. of Portland; sister, Janet Dublis of Southwest Harbor; daughter-in-law, Theresa Seekamp and granddaughter Bernadette of Scarborough; two nephews, Scott Dublis of Southwest Harbor and Wayne Dublis and his wife Sonya of Florida; cousin, Paul DaSilva and his wife Evelyn of Malverne, NY; and several other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 16, 2018 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home.  Interment will take place at a later date at Central Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
