I grew up in Ferry Village where Bert was raised. Bert mother worked at one of the local stores in the village. She was a wonderful person. I would see Bert when he came home to visit her. I did not know his dad. but everyone loved Mrs. Campbell. I got to know Bert later when I went to work for the Dept. of Education. We both would talk of the village when we met at the YMCA and later at the Wellness Center on the AMHI campus. Such a great guy. He will missed by all who knew and loved him.

I worked with Bert at MDOT from 1977 until his retirement. By the time I arrived, he was performing Office Engineer duties for the Bureau of Planning, handling a combination of financial, engineering and administrative details. Thanks to Bert;'s help, my offiice was able to have shared access to one of the first desktop computers to come into the building. He and I also shared a respect for and love of the English language. I still remember his frequent greeting as he strode into our offiice area: "How's your perspicacity?" he'd ask with a wry grin. Always considered him a friend as well as a co-worker. My condolences to the family.

Bert was our neighbor in Manchester, ME for over 40 years, and a fellow Rotarian of my husband. Bert was a wonderful neighbor and very kind. We had a small dog and he always stopped to talk to her, even if he was driving somewhere. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

I stated worked for the Maine State Highway Commission in '62 and for old Berty on an FA &SH highway project on State Route 126 in Litchfield way back in the 60's as a road inspector. We were both served as members of the 1033 Maine U.S.A.R. located in Saco an retired for the U.S. Army in 1998 with a rank of LTC. I retired from the M.D.O.T. as a surveyor party chief. Through out my career with the DOT, I got to see just about the whole Stater of Maine, from Kittery to Fort Kent and Fryeburg to Eastport. I hope to attend his funreral Saturday.
