Barbara Jean (Sayward) MacLeod

The Wagner girls and our families have lost our Matriarch. Barbara Jean (Sayward) MacLeod of Portland died June 14, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at The Gorham House. She was born February 9, 1934 in Portland to Florence (Damon) and Frederick Sayward.

Barbara graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1952. Barbara helped instill a deep love of the ocean to her daughters with many trips to Pine Point Beach. We have fond memories of playing on the beach and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, sand and all, washed down with Kool Aid.

Barbara worked for many years as a keypunch operator at Southworth Machinery where she met her future husband Malcolm MacLeod. She also worked for her daughter Stephanie as a bookkeeper before she retired.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by her brother Frederick as well as her ex-husband and father of her three daughters, Frank Wagner. She is survived by her daughters Brenda and her husband Larry Caron, Michelle Brooks, and Stephanie and her husband John Arsenault. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tiffany Caron Gillespie (Mike), Joshua Caron (Maggie), Courtney Gamblin (Mike), Kayla Desmond (John), Dennis Brooks Jr, Rebecka Ledue (Nick), Grace Arsenault, Luke Arsenault and four great grandchildren Jace, Jackson, Tommy and Ramona. Barbara is also survived by her step-daughter Debbie Dubois and Family and step-son Ken MacLeod.

The family would like to extend our Thanks to the staff at The Gorham House for their loving care during Barbara’s short stay there.

Friends and family are invited to Visiting hours from 9-10 am Tuesday June 20, with a service immediately after at A. T. Hutchins, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, followed by interment at Brooklawn Cemetary. Those who wish may make donations in Barbara’s name to The Locker Project, 73 Federal St, Portland, ME 04101.
